NATIONAL SPORTSHALL FINALS, MANCHESTER, 13TH & 14TH APRIL 2019 - Congratulations to our Under-13 Boys team who became National Champions on Saturday. Congratulations to our Under-15 Girls team who became National Champions on Sunday. Congratulations to our Under-15 Boys team who were 2nd on Sunday.
Report from Graham Maxwell, the U13 Boys Team Manager:-
It was an amazing day with so much success for the boys both in the relays and individual events. The standard was also higher than I have seen at previous finals. Deji Bello from SLH jumped 7.79M in the triple Jump, a jump that would have won gold any other year yet another boy jumped 8.01! Andrew from HHH managed 65 in the Vertical jump but came away with Bronze, another jump that could have also won Gold previously.
· Standing Long Jump – Gold for Dante Clarke best jump 2.77m
· Standing Long Jump – Silver for Frank Bostock Westland best jump 2.59m
· Vertical Jump – Bronze for Andrew Barrett best jump 65
· Standing Triple Jump – Silver for Deji Bello best jump 7.79m
· Speed Bounce – Gold for William Odgers with 88 bounces
Individual Track Races
· 2 Lap- Silver for Deji Bello
This does not do the others justice by only looking at medallist. Luis Richardson made the 4 lap final against some fantastic athletes and finished 5th, Matthew Opoku only just missed out on the final coming 7th out of 22 boys. Dante Clarke won his heat and made the final of the 2 lap but as he was ill he could not run in the final or the relays later in the day. We also saw good races by Jacob Allen and Jacob Ashworth who finished 10th and 12th in the 6 lap out of 22 boys.
· Obstacle Relay – Gold for Frank Bostock Westland, Andrew Barrett, William Ab Lowerth and Dwayne Francis
· 4x1 relay – Won our heat and then secured a Silver medal in the final – Dwayne Francis, William Odgers, Frank Bostock Westland and Andrew Barret
· 4x2 Relay – Won our heat and then came second in the final – Deji Bello, Matthew Opuko, William Odgers and Luis Richardson
SURREY OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD RANKINGS - With the outdoor season now getting underway we are starting to compile the ranking lists of performances by Surrey athletes in the standard events. Because of the number of Surrey athletes competing in the 10 age groups it is a sizeable task to keep them up to date. We are grateful to Paul Tunnicliffe who has volunteered to compile the Under-20 Women lists and to Jess Walters who has volunteered to compile the Under-17 Women lists. We are seeking further volunteers to take on the other age groups. Please contact Keith Burchell for further details.

CARDIAC RISK IN THE YOUNG - England Athletics is publicising this charity.
CRY is a charity that was established to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to the sudden cardiac death of young people. They operate a screening programme at a number of clinics around the UK and support this with mobile units that travel to other locations.
Full information about CRY and their services can be found on their website at www.c-r-y.org.uk. Young people between the age of 14 and 35 who would like to have cardiac testing can go to www.testmyheart.org.
You can also see www.uka.org.uk/governance/health-safety/cardiac-screening-for-athletes/ for information on work being done by UKA in this area.
Following the death of a young member of Croydon Harriers, Mike Fleet has been promoting this charity for several years and anyone wishing to have copies of his photographs has been asked to make a donation to CRY. Further, he has been exchanging for donations bookmarks signed by famous athletes to raise funds for this charity. We thank those of you who have shown your support in the past.
