EUROPEAN CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, BELGRADE, SERBIA, 8TH DECEMBER 2013 - Congratulations to the Surrey athletes representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland for their excellent performances. They all come home with Gold Medals. RESULTS:-

ENGLAND ATHLETICS ANNUAL AWARDS, 19TH OCTOBER 2013 - We applaud the recognition given to Gordon Pirie by his induction into the EA Hall of Fame. We also congratulate Peter Shilling who received the Official of the Year Award. Through his work with Surrey Schools AA Peter will be well known to many Surrey athletes and officials.

MARIANNE BLACK (nee DEW) 1938 - 2013 - We regret to announce the death of Marianne Black on 16 September 2013 aged 75. As Marianne Dew of Selsonia Ladies AC she made her breakthrough in 1958 when, after winning the Surrey 220 yards title, followed by the Southern title, she then finished 3rd in the WAAA final. She was selected to represent England in the 1958 British Empire & Commonwealth Games, held in Cardiff, and GB&NI in the 1958 European Championships, held in Stockholm, where she reached the semi-finals of the 200m and was part of the British team which finished 2nd in the 4x100m relay. She married Alan Black the Belgrave Harriers runner. Her last international appearance was in 1962. Her profile shows many of her performances.
BOB BELMORE 1927 - 2013 - We are sad to report the passing of Bob Belmore on 9th September after a long illness. Bob was a life member of the County Association and will be remembered particularly for his long association with Veterans/Masters athletics.

EA UNDER-17 & UNDER-15 CHAMPIONSHIPS, BEDFORD, 31 AUGUST / 1 SEPTEMBER 2013 - In blustery conditions Surrey athletes won 14 medals. There were 6 outright victories for Morgan Lake (WSEH) in the U17W High Jump (1.88m CBP), U17W Long Jump (5.91m/+2.0) and U17W Triple Jump (12.34m/+3.3 CBP); Sophie Mace (Walton) U15G Discus (40.51m); Stefan Amokwandoh (B&B) U17M Triple Jump (14.56/+3.0) and Michelangelo Buter (WSEH) U15B Shot Putt (15.93m). NEW SURREY U17 WOMEN HAMMER RECORD - Competing at the Oxford City AC Open Meeting on 14th August 2013, Sophie Mace (Walton AC) improved the previous record of 38.95m, set by Carla Letheby (Walton AC) in 2010, to 39.82m. Surrey U17W Records.
WORLD MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS, POLAND, 8 SEPTEMBER 2013 - Congratulations to James McMullan (Thames Hare & Hounds) who has been selected for the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team.

SURREY RECORDS for Sophie Mace (Walton AC) - U15G Hammer Throw of 47.94m (previous record of 46.05m set by Sophie in April 2013) and Morgan Lake (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) - U17W Triple Jump of 12.26/+1.8 ( previous record of 12.19m set by Rebekah Passley in August 2003). IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, MOSCOW, RUSSIA, 10/18 AUGUST 2013 - The following Surrey athletes have been selected for the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team:-
Men - 100m & 4x100m Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (Sutton & District) & James Dasaolu (Croydon); 4 x 400m Martyn Rooney (Croydon); 20k Walk Alex Wright (Belgrave).
David Cocksedge has spotted that Marty Dent (Belgrave) represented Australia in the Marathon where he finished 23rd - a performance which gained him selection for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

NEW SURREY U15 GIRLS DISCUS RECORD - Competing at the Woking AC Open Meeting on 7th August 2013, Sophie Mace (Walton AC) improved her previous record of 41.30m, set 3 days earlier, to 42.06m. Surrey U15G Records.
NEW SURREY UNDER-17 MEN 1500 METRES RECORD - Competing in the BMC Meeting at Watford on 7th August 2013, Gus Cockle (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) improved the previous 1500m record of 3:52.80 he set in June. His time of 3:51.81 was set when he finished 6th in the A Race. Surrey U17M Records.
NEW SURREY U15 GIRLS DISCUS RECORD - Competing at the Horsham Blue Star Open Meeting at Horsham on 4th August 2013, Sophie Mace (Walton AC) improved her previous record of 40.38m, set in May, to 41.30m. Surrey U15G Records.

SURREY UNDER-17 MEN MILE RECORD - Competing at the British Milers Club Festival of Miles meeting held at the Iffley Road, Oxford track, the home of the 4-minute mile, on 20th July 2013, Tom Holden (South London Harriers) broke the county record of 4:17.9 set by Colin Church (Walton AC) in September,1963, when he recorded a time of 4:15.79. EUROPEAN UNDER-20 CHAMPIONSHIPS, RIETI, ITALY, 18/21 JULY 2013 - The following Surrey athletes have been selected for the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team:-
Men - 400m Hurdles Jacob Paul (WSEH); Long Jump Elliot Safo (Croydon).
Women - 3000m & 5000m Emelia Gorecka (AFD); 400mH Shona Richards (WSEH).
LATEST NEWS:-
18.07 - Elliot Safo jumped 7.62m in the qualification round to automatically qualify for Friday's final. His jump was the 3rd best from the 2 pools.
19.07 - Shona Richards ran 58.96 to win Heat 3 and automatically qualify for Saturday's semi-finals. Shona's time was the sixth fastest from the four heats. Jacob Paul wins Heat 1 with a Surrey record time of 50.74 to qualify for Saturday's semi-finals. Jacob's time was the fastest from the four heats. In the Long Jump final Elliot Safo took the lead in the first round with a jump of 7.71m/+0.1 just short of his county record of 7.73m. Same distance in 2nd round then makes a big improvement to 7.82m/-0.1 in the 3rd round to set a new Surrey record. After 3 rounds he leads by 26cm. In the 5th round the Belgian athlete Mathias Broothaerts junped 7.84m but Elliot responded by jumping 7.86m/-0.3 which further improved the Surrey record. Series: (7.71/+0.1, 7.71/-0.1, 7.82/-0.1, 7.60/-0.5, 7.86/-0.3, 7.77/-0.6). ELLIOT SAFO IS EUROPEAN UNDER-20 LONG JUMP CHAMPION.
20.07 - Shona Richards finished 4th in the first semi-final with a time of 58.64 - a new Surrey record - to qualify for Sunday's final. Jacob Paul won the second semi-final with a time of 51.13 to qualify for Sunday's final. Emelia Gorecka won the 3000m with a time of 9:12.53. The second place runner was over 13 seconds behind. EMELIA GORECKA IS EUROPEAN UNDER-20 3000M CHAMPION.
21.07 - Shona Richards finished 5th in the final with a time of 58.33 - another new Surrey record. Jacob Paul finishes 3rd in the final with a Surrey record time of 50.71. Emelia Gorecka did not start in the 5000m.

UK CHAMPIONSHIPS, & WORLD TRIALS, BIRMINGHAM, 12-14 JULY 2013 - James Dasaolu (Croydon Harriers) sets new Surrey Record for 100m of 9.91/+1.1 in winning the 2nd of 3 semi-finals but withdrew from the final with cramp. Alex Wright (Belgrave Harriers) sets new Surrey Record for 5000m Walk. Surrey SM Records. Surrey Medal Winners.

IAAF WORLD YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS, DONETSK, UKRAINE, 10/14 JULY 2013 - Congratulations to Shirin Irving (Croydon) who has been selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland team in the Girls 100m Hurdles. This follows her victory in the trials held at Bedford on 1st June 2013. RESULTS

SURREY UNDER-20 MEN LONG JUMP RECORD - Competing at the Bauhaus Juniorengala meeting in Mannheim, Germany on 30th June 2013, Elliot Safo (Croydon Harriers) became the sole holder of the record with a jump of 7.73m/+0.9. Previously he jointly held the record with Oliver Newport of 7.70m. Surrey U20M Records.
EUROPEAN CUP COMBINED EVENTS, TALLINN, ESTONIA, 29/30 JUNE 2013 - Congratulations to Jo Rowland (Crawley) who was selected for the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team in this Super League event. The other participating countries were : Belarus, Estonia, France, Italy, Poland, Russia & Ukraine. Jo finished 14th (out of 32) with a score of 5643pts (14.55/-0.4, 1.66m, 13.03m, 25.10/+1.7, 5.74m, 42.81m, 2:19.11).
NEW SURREY SENIOR MEN 100M RECORD - Competing in the Diamond League Meeting held in Birmingham on 30th June 2013, James Dasaolu (Croydon Harriers) twice improved the previous Surrey record of 10.08 which he set earlier this month. He won Heat 2 with a time of 10.05/-1.3 and then came second in the Final with a time of 10.03/+0.8 to become the equal fourth fastest all-time UK athlete. Surrey SM Records.
WORLD SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS, SOKOLOV, CZECH REPUBLIC, 24/25 JUNE 2013 - Congratulations to Shirin Irving (Croydon) who became World Schools Champion with her victory in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 14.31. She was also 5th in the 3kg Shot Putt with a distance of 10.99m.
EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS, GATESHEAD, 22/23 JUNE 2013 - The following Surrey athletes represented Great Britain & Northern Ireland:-
Men - 4 x 100m Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (Sutton & District) & James Dasaolu (Croydon) ran legs 2 & 4 respectively in the team that won in 38.39.
Women - 5000m Emelia Gorecka (AFD) finished 2nd with a time of 15:40.52.
Women - Discus Jade Lally (Shaftesbury Barnet) finished 6th with her throw of 58.73m (58.73, 57.60, 57.28).

NEW SURREY UNDER-17 MEN 1500 METRES RECORD - Competing in the BMC Meeting at Watford on 12th June 2013, Gus Cockle (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) set his second County record in 2013 when he improved the previous 1500m record of 3:53.6 set by Richard Ward in August 1998. His time of 3:52.80 was set when he finished 10th in the A Race. Surrey U17M Records.
SURREY 10 MILE ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS, 2 JUNE 2013 - RESULTS.
NEW SURREY SENIOR MEN 100M RECORD - Competing in the Josef Odlozil Memorial Meeting held in Prague, Czech Republic on 10th June 2013, James Dasaolu (Croydon Harriers) improved the previous Surrey record of 10.09 held jointly by himself (set in June 2009) and Jason Livingston (set in June 1992). His winning time of 10.08/-0.1 was a meeting record and places him at the top of the UK rankings for 2013. Surrey SM Records.
NEW SURREY SENIOR WOMEN HEPTATHLON RECORD - Competing in the Meeting de Pruebas Combinadas de Arona held in Arona, Spain on 1st/2nd June 2013, Jo Rowland (Crawley AC) improved her previous record of 5638pts set in May, when she finished 1st with a total of 5702 points. Her individual event performances were 100mH: 14.59/+1.5, HJ: 1.67m, SP: 13.38m, 200m: 24.78/0.0, LJ: 5.82m/-0.4, JT: 40.53m, 800m: 2:17.27. Surrey SW Records.
NEW SURREY U20 MEN 400M HURDLES RECORD - Competing in the IFAM meeting at Oordegem, Belgium on 1st June 2013, Jacob Paul (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC) improved his previous record of 52.03, set in April 2013, to 51.56. Surrey U20M Records.

NEW SURREY UNDER-17 MEN 3000 METRES RECORD - Competing in the Watford Open Meeting on 29th May 2013, Gus Cockle (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) improved the record of 8:26.6 set by Jon Dennis in April 1986. His time of 8:21.39 was set when he finished 2nd in Race 3. Surrey U17M Records.

Surrey County Athletic Association wishes to apologise to all female Pole Vaulters for the fact that the opening height used for the County Championships event on 26th May was lower than the 2.00m stated on the entry forms.
We understand the disappointment of those athletes who didn’t enter because they weren’t confident of achieving the 2.00m starting height and can assure you that, in future, we will take great care to ensure that any stated opening height is honoured.

SURREY UNDER-20 MEN LONG JUMP RECORD EQUALLED - Competing in the Loughborough International meeting on 19th May 2013, Elliot Safo (Croydon Harriers) equalled the record of 7.70m set by Oliver Newport in June 2012. Surrey U20M Records.
NEW SURREY UNDER-15 GIRLS 800 METRES RECORD - Competing in the British Milers' Club pb Classic at Milton Keynes on 18th May 2013, Katy-Ann McDonald (Herne Hill Harriers) improved the record of 2:11.10 set by Katie Snowden in May 2008. Her time of 2:10.99 is a UK best by a 12-year old. Surrey U15G Records.
JACK FITZGERALD - We are sad to report the passing of Jack Fitzgerald, an indefatigable ultra distance runner and race organiser. He was involved in the formation of both the BMAF and World Masters Athletics and a past chairman of Sutton and District Athletic Club. Jack, who celebrated his 90th birthday in January died at a residential home in Putney where he moved after several weeks in St George's Hospital, Tooting. Our condolences go to his children and family and his club.
NEW SURREY UNDER-20 WOMEN 1500 METRES RECORD - Competing in Tallahassee, Florida on 13th April 2013, Georgia Peel (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) regained the record she first set as a 15-year old in July 2009. Her time of 4:14.40 improved the previous record of 4:15.38 set by Emelia Gorecka in August 2012. Surrey U20W Records.
NEW SURREY UNDER-20 WOMEN 400 METRES HURDLES RECORD - Competing in the Sint Niklaas Cup meeting held in Sint Niklaas, Belgium on 9th May 2013, Shona Richards (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC) improved the previous record of 60.15 set by Kate Norman in July 1995, when she won the Senior event in a time of 60.06. Surrey U20W Records.
NEW SURREY SENIOR WOMEN HEPTATHLON RECORD - Competing in the IAAF Multistars Combined Events held in Florence, Italy on 2nd/3rd May 2013, Jo Rowland (Crawley AC) improved the previous record of 5550pts set by Diana Bennett in May 1997, when she finished 2nd with a total of 5638 points. Her individual event performances were 100mH: 14.46/+0.9, HJ: 1.66m, SP: 13.09m, 200m: 25.25/-0.8, LJ: 5.68m, JT: 42.45m, 800m: 2:17.75. Surrey SW Records.
NEW SURREY U20 MEN 400M HURDLES RECORD - Competing at Basildon on 28th April 2013, Jacob Paul (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC) improved his previous record of 52.11, set in June 2012, to 52.03. Surrey U20M Records.

LONDON MINI MARATHON, 21ST APRIL 2013 - Katy Ann McDonald (Herne Hill) won the Under-13 Girls event.
SURREY COUNTY 10K TRACK RACE WALKING CHAMPIONSHIP, TOOTING BEC, 24TH APRIL 2013 - RESULTS.
NATIONAL ROAD RELAYS, BIRMINGHAM, 14TH APRIL 2013 - Herne Hill Harriers Under-13 girls team completed a clean sweep of national titles this winter by winning the National road relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham on Sunday 14th April. The team of Alex Brown, Saskia Millard and Katy Ann McDonald won by 98 seconds after leading from the start of leg two finishing just eight seconds outside the course record held by Bracknell AC. Katy Ann McDonald, the national cross country champion, won the medal for the fastest individual leg with Saskia Millard third fastest. The race was not without drama as Alex Brown was knocked over at the start in the downhill scramble for leading positions but recovered to finish second after leg one.
The girls team won the National cross country relays at Mansfield in November and became National cross country champions at Sunderland in February - in each case winning the titles for the first time in the clubs 124 year history .
UK U13/U15 SPORTSHALL FINALS, BIRMINGHAM, 7TH APRIL 2013 - Excellent performances by the Surrey teams. The Under-13 Girls were placed 6th and the Under-15 Boys were placed 3rd. Sophie Mace won the Individual Shot medal. More details to follow.

SURREY DISABILITY TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS, KINGSMEADOW, 6TH/7TH APRIL 2013 - RESULTS
IAAF WORLD CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, BYDGOSZCZ, POLAND, 24TH MARCH 2013 -
JUNIOR WOMEN: Emelia Gorecka (AFD) was first non-African finisher in 16th place with a time of 19:19 for the 6km course. GB&NI team were 3rd.
JUNIOR MEN: Lewis Lloyd (HHH) finished 77th with a time of 24:17 for the 8km course. GB&NI team were 9th.
SENIOR WOMEN: Emily Wicks (AFD) finished 65th with a time of 26:48 for the 8km course. GB&NI team were 7th.
SURREY COUNTY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION AGM, LEATHERHEAD, FRIDAY, 22ND MARCH 2013 - The AGM and the Presentation of Awards was held on 22nd March 2013 at the Leatherhead Institute. The Chairman welcomed those present including the President of Middlesex County AA, Ivor Wiggett, and the daughter and son-in-law of Herbert Bignall who was an Olympic athlete in 1928 who took part in the 1948 Torch Relay. One of the original 1948 torches was on display together with the trophies that Surrey teams had won at the recent CAU Inter-County Cross-Country Championships. The Awards for the Best Performances for each age group in the 2012 Surrey Track & Field Championships and for the 2012/13 Sportshall Series were made by our Joint Presidents, Patricia and Michael Cole. The Officials Award was presented to Ken Nunn.
The AGM re-elected the existing officers to serve for 2013/14. There remain vacancies on the Executive Committee for Club representatives. We believe that these positions facilitate the exchange of information and views between the clubs and the County Association and would welcome nominations, particularly from those clubs who have no representation on the committee which meets 4 times a year. CAU INTER-COUNTY CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, BIRMINGHAM, 9TH MARCH 2013 - ANOTHER SUCCESSFULL DAY FOR SURREY'S ATHLETES AS THE COUNTY REGAINS THE TROPHY (LAST WON IN 2011) FOR THE BEST OVERALL AGGREGATE SCORE. THERE WERE INDIVIDUAL VICTORIES FOR EMELIA GORECKA (U20W AFD) & KATY-ANN McDONALD (U13G HHH). RESULTS.

JAMES DASAOLU WINS EUROPEAN SILVER MEDAL
Both Surrey athletes reached the final of the 60 metres. James came 2nd in 6.48 (same time as winner) which is the equal fastest in the world this year. This time was also a Surrey record (previously 6.51 by Jason Livingston). Harry came 7th in 6.63.

NATIONAL CROSS-COUNTRY, SUNDERLAND, 23RD FEBRUARY 2013 - Congratulations to the three Surrey "National" Champions - Emelia Gorecka (AFD Under-20 Women), Katy Ann McDonald (HHH Under-13 Girls) and Ian Bailey (AFD Under-20 Men). In addition the Herne Hill Harriers Under-13 Girls who won their team event were all Surrey athletes.
NEW SURREY U15 GIRLS HAMMER RECORD - Competing at Swindon on 16th February 2013, Sophie Mace (Walton AC) improved her previous record of 41.73m set on 27.08.2012 to 42.83m and then went on to throw 43.83 m. Surrey U15G Records.

SOUTH-EAST REGION U13/U15 SPORTSHALL FINALS, BURGESS HILL, 9TH FEBRUARY 2013 - Two Surrey teams have qualified for the National sportshall finals in April after a high quality regional final.
The Under-13 Girls and Under-15 Boys both qualified for the National Finals on 7th April by winning their agegroups with Anthony Ahatty (Herne Hill) the top all-rounder.
The Under-13 Boys were second to Hampshire and the Under-15 Girls (last years National champions) just missed out in third place, only 10 points behind the winners who were again Hampshire.
Many thanks to all the athletes who were a credit to the County.
